In January 2020, we were delighted to reach a major milestone in Phase One of the new hospital development. Our new state of the art Sports and Exercise Therapy facility opened for patient use. This new facility includes a sports hall, fitness gym, aerobic studio, target range, climbing wall and top of the range specialist rehabilitation equipment. Building works have progressed at a rapid pace and the building has now been handed over by the main contractors to the NRH.
A period of equipping, commissioning and staff training has begun in advance of the hospital becoming operational in June 2020.
The new building is designed to link into the clinical and support services that will remain in the existing hospital building pending completion of Phase Two.
What will this mean for the patients?
The project is unique in that it is the first purpose-built rehabilitation facility to be built in Ireland. All ward accommodation at the new NRH comprises purpose designed single ensuite bedrooms with integrated rehabilitation-specific treatment spaces. The redevelopment will significantly enhance the environment for our patients and contribute towards achieving optimum outcomes from their Rehabilitation Programme. It will enable staff to deliver services in a new and innovative environment designed specifically around patients’ needs.
