The Brain Injury and Stroke Specialty Programmes
The Brain Injury and Stroke Programmes of rehabilitation at the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) provides specialised, interdisciplinary, coordinated and outcomes focussed rehabilitation for people with acquired brain injury (ABI).
The continuum of care provided by the programme includes the only national inpatient rehabilitation service for people with ABI in the Republic of Ireland, a comprehensive outpatient assessment and treatment programme and both home and community based and vocational training opportunities. The programme demonstrates the commitment, capabilities and resources to maintain itself as a specialist programme of care for people with ABI.
An Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) is any sudden damage to the brain received during a person’s lifetime and not as a result of birth trauma.

The Spinal Cord System of Care (SCSC) Programme
The Spinal Cord System of Care (SCSC) Programme at the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) provides specialised, interdisciplinary, coordinated and outcomes focussed rehabilitation to persons with spinal cord dysfunction. The NRH has developed a continuum of care for people with spinal cord dysfunction, encompassing the inpatient rehabilitation phase, outpatient phase and links to community services.

The Prosthetic, Orthotic and Limb Absence Rehabilitation (POLAR) Programme
The Prosthetic, Orthotic & Limb Absence Rehabilitation Programme (POLAR) at the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) in partnership with Ability Matters, provides specialised, interdisciplinary, coordinated and outcomes-focused rehabilitation of persons with amputation or congenital limb absence.
Amputation most commonly occurs as a result of vascular disease, diabetes, trauma, infection, or tumours. Congenital limb absence occurs when the whole or a part of the upper or lower limb fails to form normally when the baby is developing in the uterus. Depending on the nature of the limb loss, people can present with a range of impairments and resulting disability that may be physical, psychological, social or vocational.

The Paediatric Family-Centred (PAEDS) Rehabilitation Programme
The Paediatric Family-Centred (PAEDS) Rehabilitation Programme is the tertiary service for the provision of post-acute, complex specialist rehabilitation services for children and young people with disability resulting from acquired neurological injury and limb absence. Our goal is to maximise each child and young person’s abilites and minimise the effects of their impairments.
The PAEDS Programme offers inpatient beds, day places and outpatient rehabilitation services. In effect, the PAEDS Programme encapsulates the specialist rehabilitation services of the three adult programmes at the NRH, delivering these services to children and young people up to the age of 18 who require a complex specialised interdisciplinary rehabilitation intervention.

NRH Outpatients Programme
The NRH Outpatient Department is located in Unit 6 which is a self-contained standalone unit on the NRH Campus Consultant led clinics and Multidisciplinary clinics for the NRH Brain Injury Programme, Stroke Specialty Programme and Spinal Cord System of Care are delivered in and from unit 6.
